Gloucester Township Team For Change Kicks Off Countdown To Election Day

Mayer Democratic Team Pledges to Restore Fiscal Responsibility, Bring Change to Gloucester Township

(Gloucester Township)—With less than 100 days remaining until Election Day, Democratic mayoral candidate Dave Mayer and his council slate of Dan Hutchison, Michelle Gentek, and Frank Schmidt, pledged to restore fiscal responsibility and responsible budgeting to Gloucester Township. With over 1,500 doors already knocked in town, the Democratic team is driving forward in bringing their message of change to local residents.

"Talking to Gloucester Township taxpayers at their doors confirms a suspicion residents have had for a while—taxes are too high, and it’s time for real change," said Mayer. "By bringing fiscal responsibility to Gloucester Township, Dan Hutchison, Michelle Gentek, Frank Schmidt and I will deliver that change."

Under the tenure of the Republican Hatton/Lovett team, Gloucester Township residents have been slammed with annual double-digit tax increases, even in the face of an unprecedented global economic recession.

"With families all over the township struggling, residents deserve a voice in municipal hall that understands a family budget is just as important as a municipal budget" said Michelle Gentek. "We need fiscal sanity and solutions, not empty promises."

"These are tough times," said Hutchison "Gloucester Township needs a mayor with vision and a plan, not bloated budgets without a dollar of tax relief in sight."

"Gloucester Township residents have a clear choice in this election—change or more of the same" said Schmidt. "Residents are fed up with tax increases and looking for change. We will bring the change Gloucester Township needs."

As part of their fiscal responsibility plan, the Mayer Team will:

  • Review all purchasing of departments to get the best prices by requiring 3 quotes instead of just using the state list of vendors
  • Issue monthly cash flow reports to council which is not being done by the current administration, bringing accountability to municipal spending
  • Conduct an energy audit on every municipally owned building to help reduce cost
  • Develop GT CARE Zones to provide a new revenue source from solar panel projects on municipally owned land
  • Increase recycling township wide to reduce tonnage and increase revenue
  • Establish a shared services committee to evaluate services with schools, fire districts and neighboring towns
  • Develop a 2 year budget projection with a 4 year estimate, to rein in long-term spending and unfunded obligations
